In light of the controversy surrounding Clippers owner Donald Sterling, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has dropped their plans to give him a lifetime achievement award next month, the organization announced Sunday.

The Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP had originally planned to honor Sterling at the May 15 banquet, but tweeted that that is no longer the plan.

Sterling has been at the center of controversy since Friday night, when TMZ Sports leaked tapes that contain racist comments that are attributed to the NBA team owner. In them, Sterling is reportedly in a heated argument with his girlfriend V Stiviano, sparked by her posting a photo of herself posing with Magic Johnson on her Instagram account.
